We're 5 Days Old!

A Mom's work is never done!

A well-earned rest for Mama Flute

Ice Cream for Flute

Not only is ice cream delicious and cooling, it helps with milk production. Flute really enjoys her vanilla ice cream time!

"Ice cream sure helps a girl stay cheerful," smiles Flute

Welcome to Flute & Jethro's Pups!

Flute is proud to introduce her beautiful new family: 5 boys and 4 girls.

"Are you ready for the photo?," asks Flute. "I have them all lined up for you!"
Robust and healthy pups
Wonderful little toes and such long nails at birth!

Newborn ears are amazing.
Such a sweet, pink newborn nose!
It's exhausting work whelping pups and caring for pups. Flute is ready for a well-deserved rest!
Pups were born between 6am and 7pm on January 9. Flute began nesting at 7am on January 8 and began deep panting and physically getting ready for pups at 11pm. The first pup, a girl, was born at 6am and the last pups were delivered via c-section around 7pm. (The unanticipated c-section is a story for another post!)

8 of the 9 pups are doing beautifully, as is Flute. One girl has been slow to pick up nursing and is smaller than the rest of the pups. As a result, I've been giving her intensive attention and supportive care, as directed by our reproductive vet, and she's holding her own. I appreciate everyone's understanding and patience and will to be in touch after pups are settled from docking and dew claw removal.

How Much Longer?

Flute's first official (predicted) due date is January 7. You can see that Flute is ready to get her pups here.

Hopefully, it won't be too much longer, Flute!

"How much longer?," wonders Flute

Belly Full of Pups for Flute!

What will the puppy count xray reveal?

Sure looks like more than 3 pups ...
"Sure feels like more than 3 pups ...," says Flute

How many puppy skulls and spines can you see?

The official count at our Reproductive Vet is ...

Blue arrows mark 8 skulls. EIGHT!
"I told you weeks ago that I had 8," chides Flute

It's true. Flute did tell me before the ultrasound that she had 8 pups. My fault for not believing Flute rather than a silly ultrasound. "Me? 3 pups! Right.," says a bemused Flute.

The Vet won't rule out the possibility of 7 pups or more than 8 hidden in Flute's belly full of pups!

We'll know this week. Stay tuned!
